Honda To launch Electric Scooter (Activa EV) Sooner
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) will launch its first electric scooter this financial year. The announcement was made by Yogesh Mathur, HMSI’s Director of Sales and Marketing, at the 64th SIAM Annual Convention 2024.
Mathur said the scooter will be introduced across India in phases. It will target buyers aged 18 to 40. The model is being developed with Honda's team in Japan.
While the exact name and details are not yet available, the new scooter is expected to be the Honda Activa EV. It will compete with other electric scooters like the Ather 450X, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Ola Electric S1.
The Activa EV is in its final testing phase and should enter production soon. The official launch is anticipated by December 2024, with bookings and deliveries starting in February 2025.
The Activa EV is expected to have a similar design to its gasoline counterpart but with electric-specific features. It may include a wide front apron, LED headlamp, flat seat, touchscreen display, and connected tech.
The scooter is predicted to offer a range of 100 to 150 kilometers on a full charge. Specifications for its powertrain are still unknown. It will likely feature telescopic forks in the front, a preload-adjustable monoshock in the rear, and a combination of disc and drum brakes.
