Quadricycles are now Category of Vehicles - MoRTH
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has now approved Quadricycles as vehicles and can be used on Roads. The ministry has launched the notice regarding the weight, emission and saftey terms.
The vehicle will be categorized as Quadircycle, if its weight is 475 kg or less, It has to pass the safety tests which are necessary and has to pass the emission test for petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG, Hybird as well as electric. It is said that the safety laws will be more stringent then the European Standards.
This notice will make the Bajaj Qute under the approval line as the quadricycle was barred from the launching since it was first shown in Auto Expo 2012. So far Bajaj has launched Qute in 11 countries and also planning it to launch in 10 more international markets by the en of year. Last year Bajaj has exported 5000 units and now they are expecting to double this figure by the end of this year.
Driving the 400kg Qute is a rear-mounted 216cc, water-cooled, single-chamber oil motor mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Bajaj Auto guarantees a 70kph best speed and an efficiency of 35kpl. Implied for additional urban transport, the quadricycle is 2.75m long, 1.3m wide, has 44 liters boot space and comes in 2+2 or 1+3 seating arrangements.
